Miguel Hidalgo yCostilla- Eduardo
Hi, Eduardo, I apologize for not checking sources. I tend to get lazy sometimes.
Will you help me with a question about Portezuelo, Jalisco? I can only find civil registry through FHC. Are there are sources you might know of that cover Portezuelo? I know La Barca has some records from Portezuelo but I haven't seen a whole lot. Do I need to actually visit Portezuelo to do my research. Any ideas? Thank you, I appreciate any information you may give me.

Does anyone have a copy of the actual christening record for Miguel Gregorio
Antonio Ignacio Hidalgo y Costilla? I have been searching for his christening
record but have come up empty handed. I am aware of the transcript of about
1829 that is found online but I would like to look at the copy of the original,
or if possible eventually the original. Does anyone have a copy or know where I
can find one? Unfortunately the Genealogical Society of Utah did not film the
dates of his christening.

Esther,
I hope I did not come across as getting after you; that was by no means my
intention; I wanted to just inform people that sources are very important
when doing genealogy or family history; (whichever you prefer) and
particular attention needs to be given to where the original information is
coming from. On a different note, one should always go and look at the film;
there is often additional information that can help in the investigation. So
please forgive me if I was mean in any way again, it was not my intention.
As far as the records for Portezuelo, Jalisco go, I will look into it later
today and post an answer either tonight or tomorrow morning. I work a late
schedule every Wednesday, sorry! What time period are you interested in?

Thank you, Eduardo, and no I am not offended in any way. I am rather grateful to get help
from you if at all possible.
Here's my situation: I got a birth record from Portezuelo for my
great, grandmother, Maria Guadalupe Vaca Velasquez. Her parents were Rosendo Vaca and Anastacia Velasquez; her paternal grand parents were: Vicente Vaca and Dolores Ortiz; her maternal grand parents were Refugio Velasquez and Maria Linares; her padrinos: Blas Luna and Vitola Vaca. The baptism record
from Pbro. Rafael Santana Ortiz, parroco de Ntra. Sra. de Gpe. y Sto. Toribio Romo en
Portezuelo, Jalisco.
Maria Guadalupe Vaca Velasquez was born 14 March 1881. I cannot seem to find anything for her parents, such as birth, or marriage records. I guesstimate 1860's? I do know that her father Rosendo Vaca was killed before his daughter was born, and that Anastacia remarried a Jose Cerda. This last part is history given to me by my mother.
I know you are a very busy person but I'm hoping to get some ideas on how to continue this research. Thank you. Esther Jordan Lopez, esther@enhanced.org

Hi Esther, its Daniel Mendez! Well I found this (below) not
sure if you have it. We are dealing with Portozuelo,
this might be a bit of a task considering in Los Altos
there was much changes in borders, new cities being created
ownership of land changing. Well Portuzulo is near other
major towns in Los Altos; all whom were customed to travel
to those places and back.
I call: Tepatitlan, La Barca and Ayo el Chico (Ayotlan) and Ocotlan.
It will be common to see people from all this places travel back and
forth; even San Miguel el Alto a bit further north. Have you checked
this other places? I did find Vicente's and Dolores' Marriage.

Thank you, Daniel.
You are right about people traveling in my area. My ancestors are from La Barca, Portezuelo, Jamay, Ocotlan, Guadalajara and I think surrounding areas. I guess I should start by ordering the marriage record of Vicente Vaca and Dolores Ortiz.
Thanks again.

Yup, the marriage should lead you into the late 1700s! Which is good
possible more matches in IGI as one gets older in their tree; especially
in Los Altos where most families if not all have been researched

Esther,
Daniel has helped you out with some really good information. You might also want to check records in Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco which is about the same distance away from Portezuelo as La Barca. However, I would look in La Barca first before anywhere else; especially for the Vaca side of the family.
Good luck!

Esther, I greet you and send you a big hug. I think I can give you some tips about Portezuelo. First, i want to tell you that I visited several times Portezuelo several years ago because I had a friend who was born next town (town´s name is El Tarengo in ancient time and actually it is named Villa Garcia de Marquez). On that time when I visited his family there with him we were doing genealogical research for his family and I visited several places arround. What I can tell you about Portezuelo is that indeed they have principaly civil records, most of it´s church records are in La Barca precisely. The usage of the people in that region in anceint times was the following: the familyis went either to La Barca or to Atotonilco el Alto. In those 2 places you will find the christening registers for most of the families from Portezuelo. There are several town arround named: Milpillas, Margaritas, Sta. Rita, El Tarengo and others that I do not recall now.
Hope this info helps you

Yes, I forgot Atotonilco, that was the other town in the vicinity. Most of the places I mention,
Esther, used to be part of Tepatitlan, but knowing the spaniards, borders changed, land
was sold, new places were created. Like La Barca used to be part of Tepa, if I am not
mistaken.

Eduardo,
Thank you! Yes, I believe I recently found a record for one of my Vaca relatives in La Barca. I will also look in Atotonilco el Alto and surrounding areas.
Thank you, and Daniel, and Alessandro! I have new ideas!
