FERNANDO OSÓREZ Maestro De Santiago

I had stopped at Fernando Osórez when posting this line:
1). Alfonso Fernandez Villaseñor and Elvira Osórez (daughter of Fernando Osórez maestro de Santiago)

2). Fernan A. Villaseñor and Aldonza Gutierrez de Tapia

3). Diego Villaseñor alcaide de Segovía married to Maria Serones (Seron)(Seronis)

4). Juan Villaseñor Serones and Elvira de Tovar y Enriquez de Castilla

5). Diego de Villaseñor-Tovar and Isabel Alfonso de Villaseñor

6). Diego Villaseñor-Tovar"de Burgos" (b.1442 and d.1520) and Guiomar de Orosco y Sandoval

7). Juan de Villaseñor-Tovar y Orosco (b.1500) and Catalina Cervantes y Lara de Andrada

But I now have more information from papal records. Fernando Osórez “fue hijo de un “caballero profeso de la dicha Orden y de una mujer suelta” they never married. It seems that Fernando Osórez spent much of his youth living with a maternal uncle, Gonzalo Mexia (Messia) Mexia and Messia were used interchangeably by this Family, Guillermo Tovar De Teresa was mistaken when he said that they did not use both spellings.) From other pieces of the puzzle the maternal grandfather is positively identified. The “mujer suelta was “Beatriz?” Mexia, daughter of Fernán Rodríguez Mexía (Messia)

Here are some of my notes on his parents and grandparents:

Fernando Osórez fue hijo de don “Osorio Perez, caballero desta Orden”

While researching the ancestors to my Nueva Galicia Villaseñor line I came across some interesting information that connects it to the ancestors of other founding families of Nueva Galicia.

31º. Maestro De Santiago Fernando Osórez is the illegitimate son of Osorio Perez and “Beatriz?” Mexia. Osorio refused to marry even though he was free to do so. Papal records allow Fernando Osórez the right to inherit since there was nothing blocking Osorio from getting married to Fernando’s mother. Fernando Osórez succeeded his uncle, 30th maestro De Santiago Gonzalo Mexia. It looks as Fernando Osórez is raised by the Mexia Family as he follows his maternal uncle as maestro De Santiago.

Paternal grandfather 22º maestre de Santiago Juan Ozores (u Osórez)

The maternal grandfather is comendador mayor de Leon Fernán Rodríguez Mexía.

An interesting fact is that both Pedro Fernandez De Hijar and comendador Sancho Sanchez are in records pertaining to Fernando Osorez. Pedro Fernandez De Hijar is named as a nephew to Fernando Osórez.

I have stories to go with the names in my book. I also provide more information regarding Diego Velasco De Temino’s ancestry. I have interesting pieces that when put together leads me to believe that there is a strong probability that I have discovered Alfonso Ruiz De Temino’s “Velasco” ancestry. I will present this information when I have more conclusive evidence.

The line with additions looks like this:

1). Juan Osórez

2). Osorio Perez and (Beatriz?) Mexia (daughter of Fernan Rodriguez Mexia ( also identified by other genealogist as also using the name Fernan Gonzalez Mexia) Fernan Rodriguez Mexia [Mesia] was comendador mayor de Leon.

3). Alfonso Fernandez Villaseñor and Elvira Osórez (daughter of Fernando Osórez maestro de Santiago)

4). Fernan A. Villaseñor and Aldonza Gutierrez de Tapia

5). Diego Villaseñor alcaide de Segovía married to Maria Serones (Seron)(Seronis)

6). Juan Villaseñor Serones and Elvira de Tovar y Enriquez de Castilla

7). Diego de Villaseñor-Tovar and Isabel Alfonso de Villaseñor

8). Diego Villaseñor-Tovar"de Burgos" (b.1442 and d.1520) and Guiomar de Orosco y Sandoval

9). Juan de Villaseñor-Tovar y Orosco (b.1500) and Catalina Cervantes y Lara de Andrada

Sorry, I left Fernando out of the tree. Here is the correct line. I originally had a name for Juan Osórez’s father from a secondary source. I found a primary source that identifies a different father.

1). Munino Osores and Urraca
2). Juan Nunez Osores and Teresa Muiños
3). Casseiro Yáñez Ozores (two wives, checking to see which wife was the mother of Juan Ozores.)
4).Juan Osórez mayordomo mayor del rey Fernando IV, maestro De Santiago
5). Osorio Perez and (Beatriz?) Mexia (daughter of Fernan Rodriguez Mexia, comendador mayor de Leon.
6). Fernando Osórez maestro De Santiago (d. 17/Sep/1382) and María Fernández (daughter of Fernán Yáñez de Villagarcia and Elvira Garcia, Maria’s paternal grandfather is Garci Fernandez De Trujillo)
7). Elvira Osórez o and Alfonso Fernandez Villaseñor
8). Fernan A. Villaseñor and Aldonza Gutierrez de Tapia
9). Diego Villaseñor alcaide de Segovía married to Maria Serones (Seron)(Seronis)
11). Juan Villaseñor Serones and Elvira de Tovar y Enriquez de Castilla
12). Diego de Villaseñor-Tovar and Isabel Alfonso de Villaseñor
13). Diego Villaseñor-Tovar"de Burgos" (b.1442 and d.1520) and Guiomar de Orosco y Sandoval

I have three other lines that go back for many centuries that I have not posted. These three lines have many stories to go with the Family tree. It is too much information to post here so those three are saved for my book.

One line is an Italian line that also branches out to England as well as Spain.

The second is a Jewish line that goes all the way back to the Middle East well over another thousand years. This line comes to Spain and then also branches off to another country, Germany. This German branch kept very good genealogical records.

The third ancestral line of the Villaseñor Cervantes Family is that of "Elvira de Tovar y Enriquez de Castilla" that is also long and has many stories.

Thank you everyone for your collaborations on the Villasenor family tree.

Hi Rick,

I know I'm not alone in appreciating all the hard work that you've done to extend the Villasenor ancestry as much as you have. I really look forward to your book. Any news on when we can expect to see it in stores/Amazon and such?

Thank You!

Daniel Serna Valencia

Thank you Daniel Serena Valencia. You, Manny Diez Hermosillo, and many other nuestrosranchos members have made important contributions to my work. I shouldn't call it my work. I should call it our work. The book is not finished as I have many hanging threads to investigate.

Many times a little piece of the puzzle that was posted on this site has led me to pull threads that provided tremendous amount of information. I haven't had a chance to pull threads that I believe will provide much more information for my book.

Sometimes the new information led me not to new threads, but to look at the information that I already had in my notes through a new set of lenses. For example, In the past two years Marcelina/Fabiola has nudged me over and over again to revisit notes that I am already in possession of. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't have rearranged the pieces that led to a big find regarding the ancestry of Diego Velasco de Temino.

I have also at times worked with some nuestrosranchos members through private emails. Communication with George Fulton was invaluable in piecing together the Ruiz de Esparza ancestral line.

I want to finish the book and get it published, but Sometimes it takes me a long time to decipher records. I could use some help on some of my research to finish faster.

I am presently struggling in reading a document that pertains to the Viilaseñor Tovar Cervantes ancestry. Through an important gift from the king to Fernand Osorez's mother-in-law, we know the name of a great great grandfather of hers. The information in this record that I am currently trying to decipher will provide important links between this ancestor and our Villaseñor Cervantes ancestors. This record does not provide all the links in the family chain, but I do have other pieces of the puzzle that may help fill in the gaps. This line connects this ancestral line to Portugal. One of the family members married an illegitimate son of the king so there is a possible descent from the king. I repeat, descent from the king's son is only a possibility since our line may descend from a different granddaughter. But the way this family was connected to the kings, I wouldn't be surprised if they do descend from an illegitimate son of a king.

Thanks again Daniel for your words of encouragement,
Rick A. Ricci

P.S. I feel guilty not naming many of the other members of nuestrosranchos that have contributed to my research in this post. If I were to name everyone here it would be a very long list.

Elvira Garcia descends fro Godino (Godhino) de Coimbra Portugal

1. Elvira Beatriz Osores is the wife of Alfonso Fernández de Villaseñor; Eilvira is the daughter of:

2. Fernan (Fernando) Osores maestro De Santiago and María Fernández. María is the daughter of:

3. Fernán Yáñez de Villagarcia and Elvira Garcia ( court records show that she is acknowledged as a descendant of ( Godinho De Coimbra (Portugal). Elvira Garcia is the daughter of:

4: Garci Fernandez De Trujillo 3^ maestro De Santiago Garci is the son of Fernan Garcia de Trujillo (De Trujillo en Portugal) and Sancha Rodriguez (De Merida)]

I don’t know if descent from Godino De Coimbra is through Elvira Garcia’s father or mother. At this time I don’t have any information on her mother.

5. ?

6. ?

7. Godino De Coimbra
The king assigned some property to Godino De Coimbra and his descendants. In court records Elvira, as a descendant of Godino claims her rights to the property. Godino had only three sons and at least four daughters. I have the marriages of the three sons and three of the daughters. I believe the fourth daughter passed away at a young age and did not have any children. I have still not discovered the links between Godino and Elvira Garcia. This Godino has a granddaughter that married a descendant of a king of Leon.

Godino is said to descend from another Godino that originally came from Asturias and later settled in Coimbra Portugal. This earlier Godino had a daughter that married an illegitimate son of the king of Castilla.

Some genealogists have posted trees with Diego de Villaseñor-Tovar and Isabel Alfonso de Villaseñor as first cousins. I have them as first cousins once removed.

My latest research into the Villaseñor Orosco ancestry connects to research that I had already done on conquistador Hernan Cortez. This research reveals that Hernan Cortez is also related to the Villaseñor Orosco through a common ancestor.
