I am trying to trace my roots on my grandfather's side of the family
to my ancestors in Spain. My grandfather's name was Jose' Soccoro Luevano. He was born about 1892 in what I believe was Villa Hidalgo, Jalisco, Mexico. Family stories have it that he was the seventh born child of Tiburcio Luevano and Manuela Martinez. It is also storied that, by tradition, the seventh born child was given to the church.

I have a document that Tiburcio Luevano and Manuela Martinez were married in the Catholic Church, La Santisima Trinidad in Villa Hidalgo, Jalisco, Mexico on May 27, 1874. The document also states that the grooms parents were Pablo Luevano and Manuela Serna. The brides parents were Timoteo Martinez and Fermina Rubalcava.

Jose' Luevano's children have passed information on that Jose' was given to a church near Aguascalientes, Mexico where he was educated by the church and received priesthood training. He left the church just before his priesthood training was complete and immigrated to the United States around the turn of the century, early 1900s.

I have reason to believe, but not verified, that my grandfather, Jose' Luevano was given to the Catholic Church, La Santisima Trinidad, Villa Hidalgo, Jalisco, Mexico, which was probably the Luevano family church.

I have retrieved the contact information of the church, and have tried to contact them by telephone, email, and text, but have received no response.

The contact information I have for the church is Parroquia de la Santisima Trinidad, 5 de Mayo, Centro, 47250 Villa Hidalgo, Jal., Mexico, Phone: +52 495 968 0901.

I would appreciate any hints on how to proceed with my search.

Correction as to José María Martinez’s parents surnames

I believe that José María Martinez is the son of Cayetano Martinez De Sotomayor and Maria Margarita De los Dolores De la Cerda.

I had mistakenly written Serna instead of Cerda. I had also left out “De Sotomayor “ The full surname is Martinez De Sotomayor.

Luevano serna line

A day after discovering that one of your Serna line was originally De la Cerda,
I decided to search your other Serna line as De La Cerda or Lopez De la Cerda.

Bingo!

Maria Salome Serna is baptized Maria Salome Cerda Dias on the 29/Oct/1826 in Villa Hidalgo, Jalisco.

I originally had Ma. Salome’s father as Leocadio Serna. Her father is José Leocadio de la Cerda who was baptized on 18/Dec/1791 in Teocaltiche, Jalisco.
Jose Leocadio de la Cerda is the son of Jose Norberto De la Cerda and Maria Antonia Ponce.

Maria Salomés mother, Ramona Dias, was baptized with the name “Maria Gertrudis Ramona Dias Avila”. Ramona’s parents are Jose Vicente Diaz De Santiago and Petra Josefa Avila. Ramona Diaz passes away before 3/Mar/1832.

José Leocadio de la Cerda (Serna) marries again on 3/Mar/1832 in Villa Hidalgo Jalisco to Maria Mariana De Soto, daughter of José María De Soto and Rafaela Gonzalez.

Jose Norberto De la Cerda and Maria Antonia Ponce were married 20/Aug/1780 in Theocaltiche, Jalisco.

Jose Norberto De La Cerda is the son of Francisco De la Cerda and María Polonia Ynojosa that were married on 12/May/1751 in Theocaltiche, Jalisco.

Francisco de la Cerda is the son of Jose De la Cerda and María Antonia Arismenez. .

María Antonia Ynojosa is the daughter of Juan De Ynojosa and María Montañés.[possibly Martinez]

José Vicente Diaz De Santiago (born in 1772, died 17/Oct/1848) and Petra Josefa Avila were married 3/May/1795 in Aguascalientes.

Petra Josefa Avila is the daughter of José María Avila and Rita Martin.

Jose Vicente Diaz De Santiago is the son of Jose Geronimo Inocencio and Clara Josefa Lomelin. Clara Josefa Lomelin passes away before 2/Nov/1783 as on that date he marries Nestora Delgado in Villa Hidalgo, Jalisco. Nestora is the daughter of Ramon Delgado and Maria Matilde Campos. José Vicente passes away on 17/Oct/1848 in Aguascalientes.

Jose Geronimo Inocencio Diaz De Santiago and Clara Josefa Lomelin were married on 29/Feb/1756 in Nochistlan, Zacatecas. Jose Geronimo Inocencio is the son of Luis Diaz De Santiago and Catharina Ruiz De Salazar. Clara Josefa Lomelin is the daughter of Gerardo Lomelin and María Josefa Delgadillo.

Alex Mercado has provided me with a marriage dispensation that leads to a vast amount of information that shows the ancestry of María Josefa Delgadillo. I will post this information at a later date. It includes another descendancy from Toribio Hernandez Arellano and Isabel Mendoza.

I am still unsure of Gerardo Lomelin’s ancestry.

Luis Diaz De Santiago and Catharina Ruiz De Salazar have two sons that marry two daughters of Gerardo Lomelin and Maria Josefa Delgadillo on the same date in a double wedding. This double wedding provides valuable information as there are details in one record that are not in the other. There is a strong probability that a third son of theirs also married another daughter of Gerardo Lomelin and Maria Josefa Delgadillo as the dates, locations and circumstances all point to this conclusion.
