Hola a todos. I am researching the Batres line in Zacatecas/Aguascalientes. This was my paternal grandfather’s mother’s line. I have only been able to go back to late 1800s using Does anyone have family information or ideas on how to expand the search in this area? I’m glad to share what I have found so far with anyone out there who may have connections to this family name. The info I have is for Zacarias Batres and Petra Garcia, parents of Cleofas Batres, who married Maria de Jesus Almeida in 1874 in Fresnillo. She was born in 1855 in Fresnillo. They had a daughter named Macaria Batres, born 10 Mar 1872 in Fresnillo. She is the mother of my grandfather, Canuto Batres Herrera, also born in Fresnillo.

Hi Rick

I came across the name Luis Batres in an Informacion Matrimonial, Asientos (Aguascalientes) for his marriage in 1732. Don't know if there is any connection to your family, but here is the link, and the citation with image #:

"México, Aguascalientes, registros parroquiales, 1620-1962," database with images, FamilySearch ( : 20 May 2014), Asientos > Nuestra Señora de Belén > Información matrimonial 1731-1737 > image 148 of 696; parroquias Católicas, Aguascalientes (Catholic Church parishes, Aguascalientes).

Thank you so much. Unfortunately, he is listed as "hijo de padres no conocidos." I have been unable to make headway on any of my Batres (or Almeida) line. It's almost like all records before 1850 just disappear.

Hi Rick,

There was an early line in San Luis Potosi, SLP, with this surname, descending from Luis Batres (mercader) and Juana Diaz de Figueroa. They had 13 children, born between 1630-1653, of which 9 were males. It’s a couple of centuries before your known ancestors, but I imagine some of them or their descendants would’ve branched out to other areas. It’s a long shot, but it might be worth taking a look in SLP.

Have you checked the padrones?

Good luck!

Thank you so much!
