Author Victor Villaseñor will be the guest speaker Sunday, Sept. 18, when the Fullerton Public Library launches its Distinguished Speaker series.

Villaseñor, whose autobiographical work “Rain of Gold” was listed on the “New York Times” bestseller list, was born to Mexican immigrants in Carlsbad and raised on a ranch four miles north in Oceanside.

Villaseñor first published novel was “Macho!” His autobiographical work “Rain of Gold” became a national bestseller. It tells the story of Villaseñor’s family from the Mexican Revolution through its experiences in Southern California, with much of the story taking place in Orange County.

He also wrote the screenplay for “The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez” and is working with HBO on a mini-series based on several of his books, including “Rain of Gold” and “Burro Genius.”

The free program will begin at 2 p.m. at the Main Library, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave., adjacent to Fullerton City Hall.
