Francisco de Santiago and Ynes de Artiaga y Alvarado had three known children baptized at San Antonio de Padua, Tlajomulco de Zuniga, Jalisco:
-Miguel, bapt. 29 May 1633
-Baltasar, bapt 29 Jan 1640
-Juan, bapt. 18 Aug 1642

These baptisms are listed in the recently released images for Tlajomulco de Zuniga on Family Search.

No marriage record has been found for Francisco and Ynes.

Juan de Santiago, also known as Juan de Santiago y Escobar, moved to Aguaslcalientes, married three times (Antonia Ruis de Esparza, Getrudis de Esparza y Rangel, and Maria Getrudis de Nabarro [or de Naba]), and had many children, as well as very many descendants in Aguascalientes and Calvillo.

Proof that this Juan de Santiago y Escobar is the son of Francisco and Ynes comes from the document describing Antonia Ruis de Esparza's dowry which names his parents, Francisco and Ynes.

I have been unable to find any further trace of Miguel and Baltasar. I've searched for them with surnames Santiago and Escobar.

Does anyone have information on Miguel or Baltasar, and perhaps descendants? Is there any information on Francisco and Ynes?

Hi George:

This is an interesting note thanks for sharing. I would have never guessed this. I have not studied
the Santiago y Escobar family well. Since I do not descend from them but needless to say I have
them in my database. I have not been lucky beyond their grandkids of Juan de Santiago y Escobar.

I once read he had 43 kids total 23 of them which were living when he died or when he wrote his will.

I have done quite a bit of research on this family. I have identified about two dozen of his children; I suspect several died very soon after birth, or possibly were still born as there are no baptismal records.

The earliest records I find give the surname as "de Santiago." At some point, in the later 1600s, they used "de Santiago y Escobar," and later shortening it to just "Escobar."

Hi George,

Have you ever found out about a Domingo de Santiago
esp. married to Maria Ruiz de Esparza on 5 Jun 1667
in Aguascalientes. The record says they are both
Spaniards. Due to the time fram this Domingo could
be brother of Juan Santiago de Escobar? We need some
sort of proof of this link.

Let me know what you think.

I cannot place Domingo de Santiago in the family of Francisco de Santiago.

His marriage date, about the same time as Juan, and also to a Ruis de Esparza, is an interesting fact, and leads to some speculation. But, unfortunately I have found no data to connect the families.

Is this Santiago family the same one also known as Santiago de Salas?

This is the Santiago y Escobar or Santiago de Escobar family of Aguascalientes. That we
were discussing. Not sure how this Domingo fits in but could be related.

Victor,

The Juan de Santiago y Escobar in my file had three wives:
(1) Antonia Ruis de Esparza, m. 6 Jul 1665, and died before 1698; at least 11 children
(2) Gertrudis de Esparza y Rangel, m. 7 Oct 1698, and died 26 Jul 1705; five children
(3) Maria Gertrudis de Nabarro (or de Naba), m. 26 May 1706, died bef Aug 1752; at least 10 children.

Juan de Santiago y Escobar had 45 children according to his death record in Aguascalientes, but I know the names of only 26. There baptismal records for only some of these 26, and marriage records for the others.

Maria Gertrudis de Nabarro is the daughter of Andres de Nabarro and Bernarda de Naba. I do not know any more of her ancestors.

Gertrudis de Esparza died too soon to be the mother of Maria Francisca Leocadia de Escobar. I know her ancestry, and there is nothing to suggest that she used the name Becerra.

Gertrudis Becerra could be the same as Maria Gertrudis de Nabarro, Juan's third wife, but I have no proof.

Is there a matrimonial investigation for Juan Manuel Alonzo and and Maria Francisca Leocadia de Escobar?

Saludos
