Rose:

Thank you so much for sharing that information on the Gonzalez from Aguascalientes with us. I have two Gonzalez lines that I suspect are from the Altos/Aguascalientes region originally. One appears in Tlaltenango/Tepechitlan in the mid 1700s.

I have a strong suspicion that one is a Gonzalez de Yslas line because the people switch back and forth between the two names until Yslas sticks... That one I can trace back to a Juan Vicente Gonzalez (de Yslas?) married to Agustina Fasutina Gonzalez in 1756.

The other I can trace back to Tayahua, Zacatecas around the same time:

Juan Antonio Gonzalez and Maria de Avila were parents to Pedro Gonzalez born in Tayahua, Zacatecas circa 1740.

Any of this coincide with any names that you have?

Hello Rose & welcome to the group.

In reading films for Momax, Zacatecas, I found that many of my ancestors were listed as being from "Cuculiten", which had some slight variations in its spelling. I would bet that the location was a "rancho" during our time frame of research.

In looking at my trusty map, there appears to be such a place North East of Momax. On this Ranchos site there is a link to a listing of the towns/ranchos/pueblos in existence during the time of our ancestors. Hope this helps.

Thank you for that infomation on Cuculiten. I've been stuck on my Gonzales
surname. And the last information I have on my oldest line states he was
from Cuculiten. I had no idea where it was and had posted a question on
Ancestry's message board awhile ago. It now gives me a sense of direction. I
have spent the past 10 or so years working in Aguascalientes...I almost know
it like the back of my hand. In fact I have extracted the confirmation
records film # 299536 from 1620-1759,1789-1822 (people with surnames) in
Aguas, Aguascalientes. I'm in the process of editing it as a majority of the
names were abbreviated. It took my over a year to extract the film. There
are also confirmations on an Aguas, Aguascalientes baptism film 299422 which
is not listed on the film notes at FamilySearch.org. I have extracted these
also. 1663-1684 Aguascalientes confirmations were sent to SHHAR for their
next journal.

The Gonzalez de Ysla/Ysla's were from Nochistlan, Zacatecas. My most current
Ysla is from around 1619, Maria de Ysla who married Cristobal Lozano
Martinez. If you ever get your hands on Jose Luis Vazquez's book "Genealogia
de Nochistlan Antiguo Reino de la Nueva Galicia en el Siglo XVII Segun Sus
Archivos Parroquiales" it is excellent. There is some missing information,
but on the whole it's a great book. A must have for Los Altos researchers.
